Spontaneity

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Every once in a while, I will be searching through old photos and I’ll come upon the shot posted below. According to sharpness, depth of field, and exposure, this photo is pretty terrible. It may be an emotional attachment to the photo due to the memories of that trip, but I really like this photo. I’ve found it has a strong feeling of spontaneity. Looking at this image reminds me that photography isn’t just about technicals. In fact, the way you react to a photograph is far more important than if the image is sharp or well exposed.

Sandy Hook

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Yesterday afternoon, I drove up to Sandy Hook. I met two photo-friends of mine from naturescapes there, Chris Kayler and Kari Post. We wandered the peninsula a bit before deciding on the best spot to shoot. We were there early afternoon; the sun was high and the light was harsh. Sandy Hook is good for sunrise, sunset, and bird photography. It has loads of potential for abstract images of texture and color, as well as many options for macro subjects. I will definitely be taking a trip back, possibly for sunrise next time.

Cassie

This is Cassie, my 3 year old yellow Labrador retriever. I have decided she is the most adorable yellow lab I have ever seen. She would chase a tennis ball for hours if you kept throwing it for her. This morning, I was playing with her and I noticed that the backyard looked pretty nice all covered with leaves. I grabbed my camera and a dog treat and tried to get some shots of her running back with the ball. I didn’t end up with any ‘keepers’ from that bunch, but I took this before I ran out of treats. I hope you enjoy it.
