Whitesbog, New Jersey

After a few uninspired, busy weeks, I made time to go shooting this past Friday and Saturday. On Friday, I took a trip to scout out Batsto Lake not too far from Tuckerton, New Jersey. It looks like it has some promise, although bug spray is a must. I found 3 ticks on me after walking for less than 15 minutes. I went back to Whitesbog for sunset and found a few good spots for future photos.

On Saturday I went back to Whitesbog for sunset. I found this small group of stumps in one of the bogs. Because the bog is so shallow, the water is very still, making for awesome reflections of the sky. Here is what I ended up with:

Whitesbog is a great place. I’ve been shooting there for years as well as holding workshops there for a long time as well. Keep at it. If you follow the seasons you’ll notice how much the place changes its look. June is a great month catch turtles breeding. frog activity will be high in June as well. It’s a big place so keep exploring it and maybe I’ll run into you down there some time.

  2. I’m only about 30-40 minutes from there, so it won’t be too hard to take a trip down there every other week to keep up with things. Is it hard to find the frogs? I’ve heard from several sources that there are tree frogs there, but I haven’t seen any yet. I have seen a few turtles and a small lizard (don’t know the ID).

Thanks for visiting Brian! I’ll look out for you in the future. Email me if you know you’re going a specific day and I’ll see if I can meet you there.
